What You Can & Can’t Take in Carry-On Luggage (2025-2026 Update)

Learn the 3-1-1 rule for liquids. If you can spill, spray, spread, pump, or pour something, it is a liquid and must go in your checked luggage. According TSA banned items put liquids, gels, and aerosols that are bigger than 3.4 ounces in a checked bag. This way, your carry-on luggage won’t be pulled aside and examined by a Transportation Security Officer (TSO), and you won’t have to leave the item behind because it is too big. 

Most of the things in your diaper bag are not subject to TSA’s 3-1-1 rule if you are traveling with a baby. You can bring breast milk, powdered formula, baby food, bottles, and cups with you on the plane. This also applies to drugs in the form of liquid and cream. Please take these things out of your luggage and put them in a different container for X-ray screening. If your item goes off, more screening could be needed. 

What You Cannot Bring (Prohibited Items)

• Weapons
  It is against the carry-on prohibited items law to have real guns, replicas, airsoft guns, shock guns, batons, or even bullets. 
• Sharp Objects
  Knives, box cutter blades, and anything else with a blade longer than four inches from the pivot point are not allowed according carry-on restrictions.
• Flammables & Explosives
  You can’t have fireworks, blasting caps, detonators, fuses, lighter fluid, turpentine, or paint thinner, these are prohibited objects. 
• Liquids & Gels
  If a spreadable substance weighs more than 3.4 ounces, it is considered a liquid. This includes peanut butter, hummus, and creamy spreads. You can’t have bigger aerosol cans either. 
• Other Banned Items
  Bear spray, camphor, gun lighters, and pool chlorine are all against the airport security rules. 

Carry-on Baggage Weight and Size

Carry – On Baggage Allowances might change depending on the airline, cabin class, and even the size of the plane. The maximum length, breadth, and depth of carry-on luggage should be 22 inches (56 cm), 18 inches (45 cm), and 10 inches (25 cm), respectively. These sizes include wheels, handles, side pockets, and so on.

Some flights also have weight restrictions, which usually start at 5 kg/11 lbs.
